Many people keep asking the question, why are lawyers called learned, why are they called lawyers, why do so many people want their children to be lawyers, why do we even need lawyers? What exactly do they do, why do we need lawyers and many other questions?

Some people are even scared of lawyers, while some hate lawyers and some call lawyers liars, yet some love lawyers and cannot do anything without consulting their lawyers. We have decided to highlight some of the duties of lawyers which people are negligent of because whether you like it or not, lawyers are indispensible. It is our hope that at the end of this article you will know the importance of a lawyer and how powerful you are when you have a lawyer.

Only a lawyer can write a thought provoking petition to the appropriate authorities in the event of a threat to your life. Also, when it comes to recovery and protection of properties, your lawyer does it best.

Draftsmen: lawyers are not only legal drafts men, they are also very good proof readers, so the next time you write something, give it to your lawyer to read. More importantly, before you sign any legal document, you might want to check with your lawyer to avoid a law suit.

Lawyers write agreements, ranging from simple agreements like tenancy agreement to joint venture agreements, power of attorney, deeds etc.

Legal Representation: only a lawyer can give you adequate legal representation in both civil and criminal suits. Lawyers are learned: before you start arguing, I want you to know that only a lawyer is trained to be versatile in every aspect of life so there is nothing that you cannot ask your lawyer.

We could go on and on but the list of what a lawyer can do is endless but finally and most importantly, your lawyer is your best friend because believe it or not, lawyers are very loyal and honourable people, you can confide in your lawyer and be sure your secret will always be safe with him. Thus they are addressed as learned gentle men.
